Notes
The Bronx Veterans Administration Hospital and Libraries are the oldest veterans hospital in New York City. The original structure dates back to the 1880s, when the Sisters of Charity ran an orphanage in the building. After the Veterans Bureau acquired the building, the precursor to today’s Veterans Association, it became an eminent institution in veterans' healthcare, especially as the veneration of the veteran population came to the forefront of American issues post World War I. Today, the hospital partners with many institutions in New York City, such as the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, the Hospital for Special Surgery, and the Columbia Presbyterian School of Medicine
