Castle Hill Library

1961 - present

Originally opened in 1961 on Cincinnatus Avenue, the Castle Hill Library branch relocated about a 12-minute walk north to its current, modern one-story brick building in 1981. The library offers children’s, young adult, and adult collections, along with a multipurpose room for library programs and community meetings. With a packed calendar of daily activities, including workshops, storytimes, and classes, Castle Hill Library welcomes patrons of all ages, with several programs offered in Spanish. The branch maintains an active Instagram presence, where it shares updates, promotes events, and promotes civic engagement. In April 2025, Castle Hill Library celebrated a successful campaign to restore city funding and continues to call for increased investment in public libraries. In October 2023, the city announced a $12 million renovation for the branch, funded through the City Council district’s capital budget for local infrastructure. This will be the first renovation since the branch moved to its current location over 40 years ago. The building is expected to temporarily close during the two-year construction. While initially announced for 2024, as of April 2025, work has not yet begun. In February, the branch hosted a community conversation to share design concepts and gather input on desired programs and services for the renovated space.
