Red Hook Park

1936 - present

The Red Hook Park is an integral part of the Red Hook community and recreation in the neighborhood. The park’s establishment was one of the many recreational areas developed in New York City after the Great Depression as a Works Progress Administration (WPA) Initiative as an attempt to uplift morale. The park has many amenities like fitness equipment, sports fields, playgrounds, to name a few. Within the park lies the Red Hook Recreation Center, which was established in1936 with a community poll designed under the leadership of Robert Moses. The Red Hook Recreation Center opened during the development of the nearby Red Hook Houses which are situated between Columbia Street and Hicks Street. Today, the park and recreation center are still popular hangout spots for Red Hook residents, providing a safe space for kids and families to play, especially during warmer months.
