East Side Community High School

1991 - present

East Side Community High School is a 6th-12th grade public school. There is limited accessible public information about the origins of the East Side Community High School besides what is written on the School's website and Wikipedia. It was established in 1991 and the school shares its building space with Girls Prep charter school, and in the past with Ross Global Academy until 2011. However, there is detailed information about a Living Memorial Project that the school and student population were involved in. Its students were involved in a living memorial project with the Open Road advocacy group in Manhattan and Cornell University to create Open Road Park which is located beside the school and includes a garden. This project was considered as participant in the Living Memorials Project that is led by the USDA Forest Service Living Memorials Project. The garden and project serve as a memory in respect to the lives lost from 9/11. The development of this park took over 150 students in collaboration with Cornell students and support from Open Road according to HathiTrust's report (HathiTrust, April 2005, #15 p. 11).
