PS 373K: Brooklyn Transition Center

c. 1995 - present

PS 373, Brooklyn Transition Center is a district 75 high school serving students of ages 14-21. This school is one of many in the District 75 network that serve students with the most pronounced disabilities. Like most District 75 students, "those at the Brooklyn Transition Center typically have cognitive disabilities, autism, sensory issues, or severe emotional needs." (Chalkbeat 2019). Education services offered today include speech, hearing and vision services, physical therapy and occupational therapy, travel training and parent counseling. Students are also offered vocational training in classrooms that look like stores, where they can learn how to work in an everyday setting. This building used to hold PS 148, an elementary school built in 1907 that served students up until the early 80s. Then, for a period of approximately a decade, the building belonged to Blueberry Treatment Centers, serving as a psychiatric treatment center for children. Blueberry Treatment Centers also hosted the Blueberry School, providing special education and speech therapy services to young students. By 1995, the building became PS 373K, Brooklyn Transition Center.
