Borough Of Manhattan Community College

1963 - present

Since 1963, Borough of Manhattan Community College has served as a public community college in the neighborhood of Tribeca. As the largest school in the City University of New York’s network and the first community college in Manhattan, BMCC has aimed to offer its student a business-focused curriculum. Originally spread across smaller real estate plots in Midtown, BMCC has had its current main campus at 199 Chamber Street since 1983. It has another location at Fiterman Hall, at 245 Greenwich Street, and another dubbed Murray Street, at 70 Murray Street. Like many schools in the Tribeca neighborhood, BMCC was impacted by the September 11, 2001 catastrophe. Only a few blocks away from the terrorist attack site, BMCC’s Fiterman Hall sustained significant damage, leading to its full-scale renovation in 2012. BMCC opened its doors as a triage center for 9/11 victims. Today (as of Spring 2023), BMCC enrolls nearly 27,000 students.
