Crocheron Park

1936 - present

Joseph Crocheron (1824-1896) was a Staten Island born businessman and hotelier who relocated from Staten Island to Queens. He became the owner of The Crocheron House, a popular hotel built in the 1850s that was frequented by politicians and celebrities. In 1907, a fire burned down The Crocheron House and for almost 20 years, the land remained untouched. In 1924, New York City bought the land and an additional 45 acres the following year to build a park for the Bayside neighborhood. In 1936, the project was completed and served its community with trails, picnic grounds, trees, and a lake for winter sports, like ice skating. Since then, the city built a playground, tennis courts, a baseball field, and a field house in the park. In 2020, the baseball field received a renovation, where natural turf, new fences, and accessible paths were added. People of all ages visit and enjoy Crocheron Park.
