East New York Transit Tech High School (Transit Tech Career and Technical Education High School)

1941 - present

East New York Transit Tech High School opened in 1941 on Wells Street between Fountain Avenue and Atlantic Avenue. Originally, the school was called the East New York Continuation School, or "The Worker's High School of Brooklyn.” Under that name, the high school opened on May 15, 1922, with two students at 2416 Atlantic Avenue. The initial location intersected three Brooklyn neighborhoods referred to today as Ocean Hill, Brownsville, and East New York. The student population of two quickly grew to 1,900. On April 26, 1941, the school moved to the new location on Wells Street under the name East New York Vocational High School. The school offered a variety of school activities such as a marching band, an Honor Society, a school newspaper, and a variety of sports. Today the school is called the East New York Transit Technology High School, or “Transit Tech,” and continues to prepare students for the workforce through work-based learning approaches. The school offers this in the classroom with technical preparation and outside of the classroom with work-site learning internships.
