Public School No. 170

1901 - c. 1970

Public School No. 170 was first occupied in 1901 as a K-6 co-ed school located on W. 111th & Lenox. From above, the original building had a H-shaped structure that allowed the female students to enter from the 112th Street entrance and the male students from the 111th Street entrance. Around 1970, a new school, The Locke School for Arts and Engineering (PS 185), was built next to PS170. After the completion of PS 185, students were transferred and the old PS170 was torn down and now stands as the basketball court and playground of the new school.
