FDR-Woodrow Wilson Democratic Club
c. 1959 - ?
In 1959, three different factions (Woodrow Wilson, Hudson, and FDR Independent Democrats) of the Democratic party living on the Upper West Side joined forces to oppose Dennis Mahon's re-election for the 5th Assembly District. This merger founded the FDR-Woodrow Wilson Independent Democrats. The FDR-Woodrow Wilson Democrats supported views left of the Democratic party during the 1960s. They opposed the slum clearance of urban renewal on the grounds that not enough low-income housing was reserved for people already living in the community.
