The Asylum for the Relief of Half Orphan and Destitute Children
Commonly referred to as "The Protestant Half Orphan Asylum," this institution provided shelter, clothing, and education to the New York City's half-orphans--those children who had experienced the loss of one parent. In 1892, the cost of living at the shelter was one dollar a week and the institution also relied on donations. Scholarships were also provided. The Society for the Relief of Half Orphan and Destitute Children in the City of New York held events to raise money.
